Web Hosting Tip

Control Panels

When looking for a web hosting provider, you will probably hear a lot about control panels. What are they, and are they important for your web site and business? Control panels allow the web site owner or webmaster to easily access different aspects of their web hosting account. The control panel provides the user the ability to see web site statistics, administer the database, check how the server is running and manage the email account that works with the domain name. Some web hosting control panels also allow for web site updates and access as well.

Most web hosts offer a control panel for their users. If they don't, they are way behind the times! Control panels make it easier for both you and the host to run the server and web site. There are a number of control panel software programs, but the majority of hosting providers use one of three programs: cPanel, Ensim and Plesk. cPanel is the most popular control panel being used and most web hosts now use it. It is a tad bit expensive for them, so it can drive up the cost of a web hosting account. If you are on a tight budget, you might look for a host that uses Ensim, Plesk, or another low cost or free program. If you are thinking about a host provider that uses either of these control panels, check to make sure they have a good track record, just to be on the safe side.
